DBR has written a new work for The Boston Pops, Woodbox Violin Concerto,
premiering at this month's special Father's Day Concerts at Symphony Hall.
The concerto is an orchestral remix of tracks from his Woodbox Beats
& Balladry album and will feature DBR as a soloist with The Pops.
The concert is the center piece for his season-long residency with the
orchestra.
This special event at this year's SummerStage delivers
hope and healing to the people of Haiti through a carefully cultivated
program of top musicians and spoken word artists with ties to
this Caribbean gem. The evening celebrates the beauty, vibrancy
and resilience of this beloved island.
Join DBR and his band, DBR & THE MISSION,
as they perform works off of DBR's latest record Woodbox
Beats & Balladry, with special guests Emeline Michel—beloved
in her native country of Haiti for her skillful infusion of social,
political and inspirational content into traditional rhythms—and
Erol Josué—renowned for his ties
to voodoo as well as for his infectious pop music:
"I'm a proud Haitian-American composer.
I'm blessed to be able to sleep, work, eat, drink, and compose
everyday. I'm never quite certain of just what my responsibilities
are as an artist, and how I can appropriately keep the needs of
Haiti on the front pages of our websites and at the forefront
of our consciousness. There are so many who need so much from
us. There are no easy choices or answers. Along with my friends
Emeline Michel and Erol Josue, we're doing all we can to make
Haitian culture an important part of our shared conversations
on art and art-making. This concert will be a chance to share,
reflect, dance, and dream for Haiti, or anyone, who needs you."-
